Rachel Pray has seven years of experience in the field of Equine Assisted Learning & Psychotherapy, and thirty years of experience working with horses. An EAGALA Certified Equine Specialist, Rachel is available to work with Equine Assisted Psychotherapy programs and private therapists in southern California. Rachel can help your organization to design and run effective demonstrations for staff, clients, or community. Equine Assisted Learning Sessions can be scheduled for individual clients.
Equine Assisted Learning is groundwork-centered, accelerated, interactive learning. Neither horseback riding instruction nor therapeutic riding, Equine Assisted Learning emphasizes the relationship between horse and human. Participants are encouraged to closely observe and learn to communicate with horses, on the ground. EAL can improve self-confidence, help us to understand our own body language, and shed light on our unconscious feelings. For horse owners, most behavioral problems can be better understood, or even resolved, with a few groundwork sessions. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is a nationally recognized field that complements and accelerates traditional mental health counseling. EAP is a great tool for identifying sources of trauma, relieving symptoms of PTSD, and restoring balance and congruency.
Rachel Pray has a B.A. in Environmental Studies, and an M.A. in English/Creative Writing. She has trained with Greg Kersten (OK Corral), Paul Striberry (Conscious Riding), Susannah Kellogg (Natural Horsemanship), and other horse professionals. Rachel has worked as a Naturalist for the Audubon Society and the YMCA, tutored in Literacy and Language Arts, and facilitated Women's Self-Defense workshops. She is a published writer and photographer, a meditator, mother, and life-long feminist.
